Abstract
Non-healing (midline) granuloma is extremely rare disease but slight increasing tendency in recent E.N.T. field. Etiology is unknown but generally thought to be a hypersensitivity disease and characterized by acute and chronic inflammation with extreme necrosis and progressive localized destruction of the tissues of the nasopharynx, midline of face and the paranasal sinuses. This disease process is extremely detructive and the lesion spreads to the soft tissues of face, adjacent tissues of the orbit, cartilage and bone. Diagnosis can be made by biopsy of the involved tissues and by characteristic localized clinical manifestations.
In regard to treatment, long-term and massive administration of corticosteroids, small dosage of local irradiation, chemotherapy was introduced in past. But recently, the definitive medical treatment for midline granuloma is high dosage of local irradiation that stopped progression and provides excellent prognosis in survival.
Authors experienced 3 cases of non-healing (midline) granuloma which was confirmed by biopsy, and reported with brief review of literatures.
